A Bohemian Fantasy

vrijdag 28 januari 2011

'Wild Blossom' tells the story of the scandalous lives and works of Baudelaire, Verlaine and Rimbaud through music.

"The study of beauty is a duel in which the artist cries with terror before being defeated."

Arthur Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine.
Three vagabonds, bohemians, 'enfants terribles'. Spicing and messing up their lives with exuberant amounts of drugs and alcohol, having countless love-affairs with women and men. Moving all over Europe, sailing off to unknown lands in an effort to get away from the 19th century French bourgeois society, which had created their 'spleen': a feeling of desperate, meaningless nothingness.

Baudelaire, founding father of the symbolist artistic movement, whose masterwork 'les Fleurs du mal' got partially banned, died of syphilis, completely broke, alone and misunderstood.

Verlaine and Rimbaud: a famous but destructive love-affair. Verlaine left his family for the young Rimbaud, but the affair ended when Verlaine shot this intolerable, unpredictable genius, which made Verlaine end up behind bars and Rimbaud run off to Africa where he became a slave trader.

As always, all this misery gave birth to some of the most beautiful poetry ever written.

'Wild Blossom' tells their colorful story by bringing out the music behind the written words, in a performance that triggers all your senses, evoking feelings and thoughts that you might miss when you are sober...

"The study of beauty is a duel in which the artist cries with terror before being defeated."

The arts collective 'Wild Blossom' consists of students of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
Their aim is to make programs that give a musical expression to ideas, that do not straightforwardly
have a link with music. While keeping an open mind, taking advantage of the different backgrounds, cultures and ideas of all the group members, this group forms an excellent platform to create
programs that add a unique point of view to the present musical landscape.
